William Tell is an ex-military man with a great talent for card games, to which he devotes himself almost obsessively in order to keep the past quiet. But everything gets complicated when Tell meets Cirk, a tormented young man who proposes him a plan to take revenge on a man who, by the way, is also an old enemy of his. With Martin Scorsese as executive producer and Paul Schrader ("American Gigolo", "Dying of the Light" or "First Reformed") as director and screenwriter, "The Card Counter" was selected to compete at the Venice Film Festival.
