Soledade Malvar House-Museum is the result of a donation of the art collection of Maria da Soledade Malvar, a local antiquarian, to the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão. The idea of giving to the people, as she liked to affirm, the fruit of her work accompanied her for many years. The combination of several factors allowed this wish to be consummated in 1998, through an agreement with the Municipality. It was inaugurated on September 29, 2002.
This House-Museum was once home of Soledade Malvar and its antiques selling space, called Bric-à-Brac. Designed by the architect Eduardo Martins, the property was built between 1955 and 1957 by engineer António Pinheiro Braga.
The Museum’s collection consists of antiques that Soledade Malvar has been collecting throughout its nearly 100 years of life, where jewelry, faïence and paintings coexist in perfect harmony with the furniture of the 18th and 19th centuries.
On the building’s ground floor, there is a gallery to host temporary exhibitions.
