The rehabilitation of the riverside area of the River Pele and the creation of a new leisure park are two of the main ambitions for the Pousada de Saramagos. These were two of the subjects of careful analysis by the Mayor, Mário Passos, and the President of the Parish Council, José Pereira, during the visit to the parish made yesterday in the scope of the Proximity Presidency.
The place, where, at this moment, the street workout park is, in the Santa Justa Avenue, is the space where the future leisure park of Pousada de Saramagos is being projected, a work that "would greatly benefit the quality of life of the inhabitants of Pousada de Saramagos". The intention to rehabilitate the riverside area of the River Pele, through the creation of a pedestrian corridor, is part of the municipal policy to enhance the municipality's riverside areas, contributing to the creation of new leisure spaces and to the valorisation of Famalicão's natural watercourses.
The visit of the President to the parish was completed with a conversation with dozens of representatives of local associations and institutions, and individual citizens, in the building of the Parish council, who showed concern about the lack of equipment that responds to the sporting and cultural activities developed in the parish, since the existing spaces are not enough. The case of a primary school that is deactivated was addressed, but which is on land that also belongs to the parish of Mogege.
Mário Passos highlighted that the City Council will support as far as possible the ambitions exposed, however, he also stressed the importance of community action. "The union of efforts between the local community and the Council and Town Hall is essential to meet objectives", he said, stressing, "active citizens are the development engine of a parish".
This visit concluded the first stage of the Proximity Presidency Route, which will resume next September with the visit of the remaining parishes.
Pousada de Saramagos was the parish that was at the centre of the Proximity Presidency Route this week. On the table were new public leisure spaces for the parish.
