Narvel Roth is the head gardener at Gracewood Gardens, the huge estate owned by Norma Haverhill, a wealthy and demanding widow. A calm and controlled character, he is meticulous in his work, which serves as an emotional outlet. Life there runs smoothly until Norma decides to take in her troubled niece Maya, who dropped out of school after losing her parents and needs to give her life a new direction. Narvel is in charge of supporting Maya and teaching her the art of horticulture, something that initially bothers him. As time goes by, however, their relationship becomes closer, which will destabilise the dynamics of the house and bring unexpected secrets to light. Presented out of competition at the Venice Film Festival, this is a thriller written and directed by Paul Schrader ("American Gigolo", "First Reform", "The Card Counter"), with performances by Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver and Quintessa Swindell.
