The Alcino Freitas & Filho store; the Casa Marinheiro, the Chapelaria Oliveira, the Confeitaria Moderna, among many other shops, cafés, jewellers, restaurants..., are just a few examples of Vila Nova de Famalicão's commerce that is already part of the municipality's history, that has followed the evolution of time and preserves in itself marks of the territory's collective identity.
With the objective of promoting and safeguarding the municipality's traditional commerce in its heritage, historical, cultural and social dimensions, Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council created the municipal programme "Commerce with History", which already includes 23 establishments, nine located in the city, four in the parish of Antas, four in the village of Joane, three in the village of Ribeirão and two in the village of Riba de Ave.
Those who usually stroll through the shopping streets of Vila Nova de Famalicão have certainly already noticed the placement of identification plates in several commercial spaces that signal "Commerce with History".
In addition to the public recognition and appreciation of these commercial spaces, the municipal programme "Commerce with History" joins the national inventory promoted by the Directorate General of Economic Activities, and consequently the recognised establishments benefit from the protection measures provided for in Law No. 42/2017, of 14 June.
In this sense, other establishments that fit the criteria for recognition of local historical, cultural or social interest, provided in the Municipal Regulation of Urbanisation and Building, may submit their application by filling in the form available at https://www.famalicao.pt/comercio-com-historia
