Last Saturday, the Esmeriz Social and Parish Centre inaugurated the refurbishment of the building where it has been providing support to families and the community in the areas of childhood and old age for 23 years, namely through the social services of Day Care, Pre-School, Day Centre and Home Support Service.
The work involved refurbishing and reorganising the interior spaces, improving accessibility conditions for day centre users, safety conditions for nursery and pre-school children, reception conditions and working conditions for staff.
The municipality contributed 80,000 euros in financial support for the work, which "is a good example of a refurbishment, designed and conceived to adapt to the demands and conditions of the services the institution provides, with a better service for everyone," said Famalicão mayor Mário Passos. The Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) welcomes 21 users in the day centre and has almost 80 children in the nursery and pre-school classes.
At the inauguration of the works, precisely on the day that the IPSS celebrated its 23rd anniversary, parish priest Nuno Vilas Boas, the institution's president, announced that some work will also be carried out on the outside of the space. "We want to provide a response with more dignity, with more quality, given that this house is already 23 years old and obliges us to constantly renovate this space in order to give due excellence to our Social Work," he said.
