It is a pride to present Famalicão as Capital of Young Portuguese Cinema.
Councillor Luísa Azevedo
The call is out to all young Portuguese filmmakers who want to participate in the short film competition of Ymotion - Youth Film Festival of Famalicão. The launch of the eighth edition of the festival, which took place on 7 May, marks the start of the registration period for short films in Ymotion, which runs until October 14th.
The presentation of the new edition of Ymotion was led by journalist Maria João Rosa, and was attended by the Youth councillor, Luísa Azevedo, the president of the Portuguese Film Academy and one of the jurors of the competition, Paulo Trancoso, and the festival commissioner, Rui Tendinha.
"It is a pride to present Famalicão as Capital of Young Portuguese Cinema", said Luísa Azevedo in her speech. The Youth councillor recalled the various dynamics that take place throughout the year, such as workshops, conversations, among other activities related to cinema, leaving an appeal to the young people of Famalicão to "take advantage of the opportunities that will allow them to know better the activity of cinema and its techniques".
"Famalicão is becoming a centre of young Portuguese culture in cinema" highlighted Rui Tendinha, who believes that there will be a lot of adhesion to the competition, as in previous editions, because it is an appealing festival for those who are beginning their careers as the prizes have a monetary value associated. "It is an incentive, I congratulate the City Hall for that", commented the festival commissioner.
In what concerns what we can expect from this edition, Rui Tendinha commented that "we will have a premiere, (...) and also a tribute that we cannot reveal yet", as well as, "a touch of Brazilian short films, through the São Paulo International Short Film Festival, one of the biggest, if not the biggest in Brazil", an international partnership that will also allow us to take the best Ymotion films to the Brazilian public.
It should be noted that also present at the launch of Ymotion 2022 was the godfather of the festival, actor Tiago Aldeia, along with the jury of the short film competition, led by screenwriter and film critic, Tiago R. Santos, which includes strong names such as Paulo Trancoso, Paulo Pires, Cláudia Clemente, Fernando Vasquez, Lúcia Pires and Bruno Carnide.
It is recalled that Ymotion is a festival organised by Vila Nova de Famalicão Municipality since 2015, which has established itself in the circuit of film shows and festivals in the country, serving as a lever for the work of young filmmakers aged 12 to 35. In parallel with the short film competition, it develops, throughout the year, training and educational activities. In the 2021 edition, more than 250 short films were received in the competition and director Pedro Peralta received the "Joaquim de Almeida Grand Prize" for his film "Perpetual Night" (2020).
