The Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Mário Passos, praised yesterday "the invaluable work" that the Voluntary Firemen of Famalicão develop with the community. The mayor was present at the celebrations of the 132nd anniversary of the corporation, marked by the inauguration of female dormitories.
The new structure will provide the barracks with better conditions for the corporation's female firemen. Its construction had a municipal support of 150 thousand euros and the Mayor of Famalicão reaffirmed the availability of the local authority to continue to support the corporation whenever necessary. "Our openness to help their growth and meet their needs is total", he said.
"The Famalicão Voluntary Fire Brigade is a historical institution of the municipality, and, like all the other Famalicão corporations, they are a reference, to whom we are deeply grateful for their path and whom we will continue to support and cherish so that they have many good years. We need them a lot", he added.
The president of the board of the Humanitarian Association of the Voluntary Firefighters of Famalicão thanked this and all other support granted by the City Hall. "They have always been on our side".
About the inauguration of the women's dormitories, Avelino Reis considered it "a good gift" in a birthday day, considering its necessity due to the growing participation of women in the daily life of the corporation.
It should be noted that Vila Nova de Famalicão City Hall has an intensive policy of support to its Fire Brigades, granting an annual subsidy, translated into monthly instalments, of 90 thousand euros to each of the three corporations and 42 thousand euros to the Ribeirão Red Cross Centre. The annual support plan for the municipality's rescue forces represents a municipal investment of more than 400 thousand euros, a fundamental financial effort to ensure effective, permanent and rapid rescue responses to the population.
The City Hall also grants financial support for the operation of the permanent intervention teams of the fire brigades, up to a maximum amount of 8,700 euros per quarter for each corporation.
