Sustainable Development in debate at the 5th meeting of the Museum Network of Famalicão

“Together we make museum. Walking towards sustainable development.” is the theme for the 5th meeting of the Museum Network of Vila Nova de Famalicão, which includes, on November 29th, a debate open to the public at the Colonial War Museum, in Ribeirão, as well as a workshop at the Automobile Museum, in the same parish, and a technical visit to the National Coach Museum, in Lisbon, for the teams of the famalicense museums, on November 30th.
The debate on the first day of the Meeting aims to explore the economic, environmental and social pillar of the sustainable development and to present culture as the fourth pillar, and will work in hybrid format, face-to-face and through the Zoom platform, both with limited vacancies and compulsory registration through this link https://forms.gle/Ts7Aw9ZL4VHuKKd89 .
A reflection on sustainable development that covers the international panorama is foreseen, and speakers such as Mário Jorge Machado, from the Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, Sara Moreno Pires, from the University of Aveiro, Fernanda Morais and Fernando Maia, from the Salesópolis Energy Museum (Brazil), and Manuel Gama, from the Communication and Society Studies Centre of the University of Minho, will be present.
On the same day, the Automobile Museum will receive, in the afternoon, a dynamics of participated work for the teams of the Famalicão Museums. This workshop, entitled "Ecological Footprint: a path to follow", aims to reveal the sustainability index of Famalicão Museums, reflect on the results obtained with the measurement of the ecological footprint of Famalicão Museums, identify actions that effectively contribute to Sustainable Development and define implementation strategies for the identified actions.
Besides these activities, the meeting also includes, on November 30, a technical visit to the National Coach Museum in Lisbon, addressed only to the teams of the Famalicão Museums, in order to empower and train them, through the contact with good practices adopted by the institution in the management of collections, namely in terms of inventory, documentation and conservation.
It should be noted that the Meeting of the Museum Network intends to work on the role of these as transforming agents in and of the territory, based on good practices that contribute to the respective sustainable development. The theme addressed follows the commitment made by the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, in the Sustainability and Social Responsibility report, in which it presented its intention to create links between municipal activity and the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
