The Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão is increasingly in tune with the rest of Europe. Currently, the City Hall led by Mário Passos integrates more than a dozen of European projects that allow it to share knowledge, experience and good practices with dozens of cities and institutions of the 'old continent'.
European City Facility, IURC (International Urban and Regional Cooperation), Interreg, URBACT, COSME, CERV are some of the programmes in which the Famalicense municipality participates.
For the Mayor, "this cooperation with other territories is essential for a city like Vila Nova de Famalicão that wants to grow at a European and world scale". And he adds: "We all win with this closer relationship that prepares us to better face the challenges of the future".
Mário Passos, who this morning marked Europe Day in the City Hall with the traditional hoisting of the European flag to the sound of the "Ode to Joy", also recalls that the municipality of Famalicão is also part of several networks of European and world cities dedicated to various themes - mobility, environmental sustainability, entrepreneurship, economy, among others - and from which "it tries to take full advantage".
The mayor also highlights the City Council's ability to take advantage of EU funds, recalling the latest data released that indicate Famalicão as one of the Portuguese cities that best took advantage of the European funds related to the Portugal 2020 community framework. "The European Union is a project of collective growth and we have been able to take advantage of the various opportunities that arise for the development of the county”, he said.
In addition to this morning's protocol moment, it should be noted that Europe Day will continue to be celebrated in Famalicão with the promotion, by Casa da Juventude, of the "Europe Week", with the realisation of several dynamics with the purpose of strengthening the connection of the youth of the municipality to the European heritage.
