15-09-2021
«Move sustainably. Be healthy. » is the slogan of the 2021 edition of the European Mobility Week (EWK), which runs from 16 to 22 of September. The City Council of Famalicão joins the initiative through the departments of Mobility, Sports and Youth, with a set of activities next Saturday, 18 September, in various locations of the city, with the aim of promoting and raising awareness of the whole community for a more sustainable and active mobility, as well as for a greater use of soft modes of mobility.
In agreement with the Ministry of Environment, and in order to meet the National Strategy for Clickable Active Mobility (ENMAC) and the Action Plan for Vila Nova de Famalicão's Active Mobility - Pedestrian and Clickable, the awareness-raising actions, within the scope of EMW, will start with a training cycle on "Ecological and Efficient Driving" at Casa da Juventude, for people over 18 years old, from 9h00 to 13h00.
On the same day, Praça 9 de Abril will host several activities of entertainment and promotion of soft means of transport, from 10h00 to 18h00, ranging from "Learning to Ride a Bicycle" with the Portuguese Cycling Federation, to "Promotion of Soft Modes" by Tomatubikes and Associação de Bicicletas Temos Todos (Brufe BTT). In this space, there will also be a Workshop on Initial Basic Mechanics, developed by Famabike, limited to 10 participants, starting at 16h00.
On September 18, the Road Education School will be at the Devesa Park, with a circuit with go-karts for young people up to 15 years, from 10h00 to 18h00.
It should be noted that every year, from 16 to 22 of September, European citizens have the opportunity to celebrate a whole week dedicated to sustainable mobility, with the aim of promoting a wide debate on the need of changing attitudes and behaviours in relation to mobility, in particular regarding the use of vehicle. The European Mobility Week initiative was set up in 2002, following the success of the European Car Free Day (DESC) in 2000 and 2001 by the Commissioner for the Environment and with the political and financial support of the European Commission (EC), as a partnership between the European Coordination, the local authorities and the EC.
The European Commission chose the theme «Move sustainably. Be healthy. » in order to pay tribute to the difficulties experienced by Europe, and by the world, throughout the pandemic COVID-19, promoting reflection about the opportunities for change resulting from this health crisis on the European continent. In this sense, the local community is encouraged to keep fit and mentally fit while exploring the beauty of the city, region or country, respecting the environment, their own health and that of others, by each citizen making a careful choice of their mode of transport.
