Famalicão is gearing up to receive, from 24th to 25th February, several thousands of visitors who choose the city for the great night of Carnival.
One of the main novelties of this year´s edition hinges on raising awareness of the community about environmental sustainability and the need to reduce plastic consumption.
Thus, in order to reduce the ecological footprint of the event, only reusable cups will be utilised in all participating establishments.
Started in the 80's with a group of revellers from Famalicão, the event has been growing steadily and is already a national phenomenon. Whole families, groups of friends, more or less organised teams invade the city, in a contagious movement of joy and much revelry. Bars and cafés open their doors and join the party with their DJs playing music to revellers till dawn. Everybody wears fancy dresses for a mega outdoor Carnival party where there is room for everyone.
So that no one misses the party, the City Council is providing free buses going through the city to ensure revellers travel and have fun in a safe environment.
For those coming from outside, thanks to the city Council’s partnership with CP - Comboios de Portugal (The Portuguese Railway), they can get a Return ticket for 2€ only.
