The City Hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão was distinguished with the prize "Council of the Year" for its action in the fight against Covid-19 in the social dimension, through the measures implemented in the territory during the year 2021. The delivery of the award took place yesterday, June 8, in Lisbon and the Vice President, Ricardo Mendes, and the town councillor for Health, Sofia Fernandes, represented the City Hall of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The Council of the Year Award, attributed by the Lisbon Awards Group in a partnership with ECO newspaper, was created with the purpose of honouring the municipalities and parishes that stand out, in the most varied areas, for their innovative practices and rigorous management of the public interest.
The award was attributed following an application submitted by the municipality, which was subjected to the evaluation of a group of judges made up of personalities from civil society, who were distinguished by their civic, academic and professional background.
The jury valued the implementation of the plan of reaction to the epidemic situation and of social and economic intervention that the City Council developed with 30 measures that remained active throughout the year 2021, and to which other measures, intervention projects and various supports were added, adjusting the reaction to the consequences of the pandemic to its own evolution in the territory, in the country, in Europe and in the world. The plan was built on 3 essential dimensions, namely: - Socio-economic mitigation; - Reaction to the pandemic situation; - Social protection to the population.
This was the 3rd edition of the Autarchy of the Year Award.
