Next Monday, 22nd of November, at 19h00, Vila Nova de Famalicão will inaugurate the Christmas season, with the Christmas illumination that will animate the city and towns, and with the return of the traditional Christmas tree to the city centre, this time at Praça 9 de Abril. With Christmas just one month away, Famalicão is already preparing for the most magical time of the year, by dressing itself in light, colour, music and joy. The preparations are taking place all over the city and the villages, and promise to cover the Christmas season with magic and fantasy.
After a year's interruption, due to the pandemic situation caused by Covid 19, Vila Nova de Famalicão is once again filled with light and joy. Circo de Papel, promoted by INAC - Instituto Nacional das Artes do Circo is also back to Parque da Juventude between 3 December and 6 January, to the delight of kids and adults, with the show Aquarela. Inspired by the book "Meninos de Todas as Cores" by Luísa Ducla Soares, the show reveals what unites us as human beings; our differences.
The Christmas Market, with handicrafts and traditional products, will also once again enliven the city, taking place this time in the spaces inside and around the Square - Municipal Market, between 26 November and 9 January. The Street Food Square will be located in the Citizenship Square.
Christmas music will make itself heard with the "Communities in Choir" Christmas Concerts, with a dozen performances, between December 1 and January 9. The initiative, which took off in 2019, has culminated in a real success, being held this year in the Square - Municipal Market.
Santa's Solidarity Cabin, with the collection of goods for subsequent distribution to needy families, is already one of the most emblematic moments of the Christmas season in Famalicão. Between 12 and 24 December, the Solidarity Cabin will be open at Praça 9 de Abril, welcoming solidarity, but also lots of entertainment and magic.
Throughout the city, among the streets, squares, avenues, squares and gardens, the dynamics and pulse of the Christmas season will be felt, with the involvement of traders, inhabitants and passers-by. For the younger ones, there will be plenty of reasons to play, starting with the carriage and the Christmas train.
In the Soledade Malvar Gallery, the exhibition of "Traditional Nativity scenes", created by the Inter-freguesias Social Commissions, will take place between December 11th and January 9th.
For the Mayor, Mário Passos, "the municipality in collaboration with the Famalicão Commercial and Industrial Association (ACIF) are joining efforts to transform the Christmas season of the famalicenses in a unique moment of joy and fantasy, animating and beautifying the city".
"After such a difficult year, we want to take Christmas to all famalicenses, anchoring it to a message of hope, joy and confidence in a brighter future", says Mário Passos, adding, "we will make Famalicão the place of Christmas".
This year, the traditional S. Silvestre will also return, on the 23rd December, organised by Eugénios HC and CNE, Famalicão Branch and the Famalicão Porto de Encontro, on the evening of December 24, organised by ACIF.
