Alberto Sampaio is the historical figure that unites the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão to the cultural institution, A Oficina, Centro de Artes e Mesteres Tradicionais of Guimarães, under the supervision of the City Council of Guimarães. The celebration of a protocol between the two entities was approved in the City Council meeting of the past 25th of November, aiming at the development of partnership actions for the creation and dissemination of the Alberto Sampaio Study Centre (CEAS).
A close dialogue is foreseen between the parties involved in the agreement, concerning the planning and implementation of activities of scientific and cultural nature, so that the Studies Centre may become a pole for the dissemination of the thought and work of Alberto Sampaio, the maintenance of his memory and the awakening of new ideas and projects that have this personality, of national and international importance, as a primary reference.
With this signature of this collaboration protocol – valid for one year and automatically renewed for equal periods, except otherwise disposed by the parties involved - the City Council of Famalicão becomes part of the nucleus of the founding entities of CEAS, which includes institutions such as the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, Alberto Sampaio Museum, Casa de Boamense, Sociedade Martins Sarmento, among others.
The Alberto Sampaio Study Centre, located in the house of his birth, in the historic centre of Guimarães, is an archive and study space, which also assumes itself as a diffuser nucleus of the thoughts and work of its patron, honouring his memory by instigating new researches and actions.
Note that on December 1, at 15h00, will be delivered at Casa do Território, in Devesa Park, the Alberto Sampaio History Prize to António Castro Henriques, winner of the 2021 edition. This is a distinction promoted by the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão, through the Municipal Archives of Alberto Sampaio, along with the City Councils of Guimarães and Braga, Martins Sarmento Society and Academy of Sciences of Lisbon.
