Modern explorers, who seek to learn more about the history and evocative places of Camilo Castelo Branco, can now walk the “Cangosta do Estevão trail”. Along the three-kilometre trail, between the house where the writer lived with his family, in São Miguel de Seide, and the Landim Monastery, signs identifying the route have been placed, combining physical exercise with cultural knowledge.
The inaugural walk of the identified route took place last Friday, May 20, in the scope of the celebration of the European Night of Museums, and involved more than fifty walkers, including the Councillor for Culture and Sports, Pedro Oliveira.
The route, whose name is inspired in a pedestrian trail that existed in Ribeira de Pena, scene of the novel "Maria Moisés", offers several points of interest: from the evocation of relatives/descendants and people known or from personal relations of the novelist; the knowledge of the physical and human landscape of the region that served as inspiration and literary creation to the writer; the promotion of the practice of physical exercise; the contact with nature and the enjoyment of Minho countryside environments.
During the route, some places more related to Camillian life and fiction are highlighted, namely, the water-mill of Maria Moisés, the house of Passelada - where Ana Rosa Correia, wife of Nuno Castelo Branco, lived -, the farm of Pregal - which tradition attributes to have lived there Marta, The house of António José Pinto Monteiro - "O cego de Landim" (The blind man of Landim) - and the Monastery of Landim - a monastery owned by António Vicente, a close friend of the writer, where there is a room where the writer used to spend some days.
It should be noted that the placement of signage on the "Cangosta do Estevão Trail" resulted from a municipal investment of over 20 thousand euros, supported by funding resulting from the application "Enhancing the visit to Seide", approved under the North2020 operational programme, inserted in the Amar o Minho project, co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
