The Parish Council of Esmeriz and Cabeçudos marked, on Tuesday, the eighth year of union of these two communities, with a solemn session that honoured personalities and institutions of the location.
The Mayor of Famalicão, Mário Passos, attended the session, stressing the importance of this initiative. "I made a point of being here today, next to these communities, celebrating this union", said the Mayor.
Mário Passos highlighted the "huge development registered in recent years in Esmeriz and Cabeçudos", but "more than the physical work", the Mayor, stressed the importance of the "immaterial dimension", referring to the "spirit of union of communities and social cohesion".
"This is the most important work and it is always unfinished, because there is always work to be done. And the builders of this community spirit are the people, those who serve as examples, such as those being honoured here today, on an individual and collective level", he stressed, adding that "mayors also have a fundamental role in this dimension, because they are the glue and cement that unites the community".
In his turn, the president of the Parish Union, Armindo Mourão, praised the communities that he presides and left a word of gratitude to all the personalities that have been honoured and that have contributed to the development of the parishes.
This year the following personalities and institution were distinguished: Mário Pinto; Chief Adriano; José Areal (posthumous title); Lindorfo da Silva Peixoto (posthumous title) and Social and Parochial Centre of Esmeriz.
